Review: OLAPLEX No. 4 and 5

Ever since Olaplex became popular a few years back, I’ve been a steady user of this magic hair potion. The No. 3 has been a solid part of my hair cair routine for three long years now, so you can only imagine how excited I was when they came out with the No. 4 and No. 5!

If you want to know more about my hair care routine and which products I love you can read about it here.

Size difference of the No. 3 and No. 4 and 5.

At first I was kind of wary about buying it, as they are very expensive for shampoo and conditioner. What made me get them though, was the fact that my hair has been super dry since summer and most early reviews claimed that a little product really goes a long way.

Let the No. 3 soak for at least 30 minutes.

As  always, I started by putting the No. 3 in as a leave-in hair treatment. I rinse my ends and lengths with warm water and spread a walnut sized amount all over it.

I even wrote a more detailed post on how to use the No. 3 at home and you can read about it here.

Using Olpalex No. 4 and No. 5

The shampoo has a very thick consistency, making it hard to spread at first. A little goes a long way though, a walnut sized amount will work for your whole head. It leaves your hair feeling a little coarse though. I was not 100% convinced about whether this really helped my hair become healthier.

The conditioner is really great! It leaves your hair feeling silky soft and I only left it on for about 3 minutes.

The Result

My hair definitely feels strengthened and super soft after using the whole range of Olaplex products. My ends feel and look a lot better than before and I feel like it is a lot easier to style now.

After using Olaplex 3, 4 and 5.

I think you can see how evenly my hair falls and how it’s almost pin straight. I just did some blow drying and let the rest air-dry!

After using Olaplex 3, 4 and 5: No more split ends!
Is it Worth The Price?

This is probaly the biggest question about all the Olaplex products. If you are someone who has chemically treated hair like me, this is definitely a must. I personally don’t think you have to use the Olaplex range for every single wash though. I think every two to three weeks works fine.

Honestly, I think if you use a good drugstore shampoo along with the No. 5 consitioner you would get the same result. For a shampoo, I think it really is too expensive considering the outcome.

The contioner, on the other hand, is a must for me though. It works almost as good as the No. 3, which is great for ‘only’ being a conditioner.

Where To Get Olaplex No. 4 and No. 5

2019 Update: I still love the whole Olaplex range and recommend it to anyone who has chemically treated or very damaged hair.

Have you tried the new Olaplex products yet?
