Daytrip to Zandvoort aan Zee

Spring has finally arrived here in the Netherlands and the weather gradually gets better. Last Sunday I got to spend some time at the beautiful beach of Zandvoort aan Zee, which is a popular seaside spot close to Amsterdam.

Trains to Zandvoort go about every 30 minutes and the ride takes like 35 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal, so it really is the perfect spot for a quick weekend daytrip. We went there on a Sunday and it was relatively crowded, mainly because it was one of the first sunny weekends here in the Netherlands since I arrived in February.

The beach is really spacious and there’s thousands of dogs running around and frolicking in the sun! I love how no one minded them there and people took care of them so well. There was absolutely no trash or other unwanted substances on the beach.

There are so many beach clubs on this beach, it was really hard to pick one we wanted to have lunch at. They basically all have the same beachy, rustic style and serve loads of snacks and yummy seafood. I really loved my food at this place, but I feel like I want to try out the other beach clubs the next time I go there.

The area around the beach is very well kept and looks like only elderly, rich folks own their little holiday homes there. Generally, there were lots of Germans around, so it’s a popular vacation spot to them.

All in all, Zandvoort is a really beautiful place to spend some time in the sun, but don’t forget to bring a scarf or a blanket as the wind is quite strong there. I think id you plan on going there for about half a day that’s totally enough. Aside from having lunch and spotting cute dogs there really is not much to do there.
